The Sky Blues have agreed an undisclosed fee with Portsmouth for the transfer of England Under-21 defender Martin Cranie.
According to Sky Sports, the versatile six-foot defender is having a medical today (Wednesday) subject to signing a three-year deal with the club.
Cranie began his career at Southampton where he helped his side to the FA Youth Cup final in 2005. Loan spells at Bournemouth and hometown club Yeovil then followed before Harry Redknapp signed him for Portsmouth in 2007.
A loan move to QPR was cut short due to a broken leg, but Cranie recovered to make 19 appreances for Charlton last season. He returned to Portsmouth at the beginning of 2009 and made two FA Cup appearances.
The 22 year-old has also made 16 appearances for the England Under-21’s. He won rave reviews for his performances in this summer’s European Under 21 Championships, and notched up his first international goal in England’s 3-3 draw with Sweden.
Cranie would become Chris Coleman’s fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of Sammy Clingan from Norwich, Michael McIndoe from Bristol City, and Patrick van Aanholt on loan from Chelsea.
