I just don’t buy it, anymore.

Why I not getting a season ticket next season. This has nothing at all to do with the sale of Leon Best, I’ve just had enough. 4:30pm Saturday afternoon in a freezing cold Ricoh, an afternoon of complete boredom, which I’m doing out just of duty & routine, watching bland football, in a soulless Arena, after years of want, the desire to carry on doing this, sadly, has gone.

I not going to make any apologies, cast any aspersions, parry any blame, I’ve just had enough. I spend a fair few bob a year on following my club , that represents my City, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I can spend my free time, and spare cash, on doing something more enjoyable, with my Saturdays and mid week evenings.

Watching football in Coventry has, sadly, for me, become more about the friendships I’ve gained through doing this website and the before and after game social side, spending time with my two sons, and going to away grounds & places we’ve never been, rather than the chore of turning up at the Ricoh, supporting Coventry City.

I don’t boo players, I don’t rant and rave at officials, much, slag off Coleman, deride Ranson, criticise Ricoh Arena Ltd, etc, but for me the passion has gone. I just can’t be bothered anymore.

Football, as a contest, (and an interest for me) is nearly dead.

Money, or even in our case the ‘lack of’ has ruined it. It’s just not a competitive sport , I have nothing in common with footballers any longer. I don’t relate to them as sportsmen, or consider them something to aspire to. As for my experiences as a supporter, unless I’m, rarely, in the corporate areas, is akin to what I imagine the day to day routine of what being banged up must be like.

Sports coverage on Sky has reduced the sport I love to the equivalent of American wrestling, and for the record I don’t find that entertaining either, I don’t have any wide eyed wonder in it any longer and bar the odd moment of brilliant, pure, skill, the sport has been reduced to kick and rush, defend and hoof, tactical negativity or just pure cheating, to gain an unfair advantage.

I have the utmost admiration for those that spend season after season doing every game, I’ve never pretended to be No 1 supporter, have the inside edge, know it all, have all the answers, but I have had a few questions and reasoned, considered solutions and I will see this season out in the hope for the remaining games, we’ll show some positivity and be entertained, but I somehow doubt it with the way we play at present.

I’ll be at the remaining home games, enjoy a Balti at the Vine in West Brom with my Baggie mates, trawl up to Newcastle to see Leon Best score against us and hopefully see us put a few past Wee Gordon Fucking Strachan at the Riverside and then after that, retire gracefully, to some weekends going out with my wife - who has seen me spend more of our time, money and hours of married life, considering, worrying, caring passionately about 11 men, kicking a bag of wind around, a green field, for 90 minutes, 50 or so times a year & all the minutes in between passionately debating the pros and cons, in a business I can do nothing to influence, but turn up and be treated, pretty shabbily. But no more.

I’ll have a chat with Moz, give Knowl a call, see if anyone would like to pick up & continue the fine tradition of GMK that Nev and Joe set up and, in my own little way, hope that I have at least continued, in the best spirit, to prolong over the last 5 years. Then next year pick and chose, when I have the spark of interest, to go to a game that fires the imagination and contribute a bit here and there, however - unlike my work mates have suggested - there’s no fucking way I’m going to Villa Park with any regularity, (or even occasion)!

I don’t like being taken for granted, and whilst CCFC is in my DNA, (and always will be), what I see and feel at present, at the club I love, does not fire me sufficiently to feel I can carry on with the encouragement I have given, & largely endured, without some enjoyment or entertainment in return. (I forgot about involvement a few years back).

Again, I admire those that continue, week in, week out, to follow the lads who play for the club and they both continue to have my complete support, as much as I give thanks to everyone that has helped, written, posted or read this website, but when Saturday comes next season, my focus will, largely, be somewhere else.
